A plantar fibroma is a non-cancerous (benign) nodule or knot that develops within the plantar fascia—the thick band of tissue spanning the arch along the bottom of your foot. These firm nodules remain embedded within the fascia ligament band and can cause discomfort when standing or walking.
Symptoms & Clinical Signs
Plantar fibromas are distinct from skin calluses or warts and often present with:
- A noticeable, firm lump in the arch of the foot beneath the skin.
- Pain or feeling like walking with a small stone trapped inside your shoe.
- Increased discomfort during barefoot walking or standing on hard surfaces.
